Saltwater Witch Chapt 13, page 3 is up!

Sketched out the two panels for page three this morning, lined and colored them this afternoon, and just finished the lettering, balloons, and other details. It's posted.  Check out page 3 here: http://www.saltwaterwitch.com/switch

Here's the linework for the two panels:

Saltwater Witch Banners and Linking

I finished up a new format for Saltwater Witch last weekend–with new art, all new lettering.  It took me a couple weeks to complete, but I haven't had time to post about it until tonight. If you haven't checked it out yet, please do. I'd love to hear what you think.

If you would like to link to to Saltwater Witch, I've created some banner images:

Saltwater Witch update – pages 234 through 238

Okay, I've posted them–www.SaltwaterWitch.com! For the foreseeable future I'm going to draw panels on my iPad (color when I can) and letter in Photoshop, hoping to get this down as a system that won't take all of my time. I have the rest of this chapter and a bunch of the next–roughly twelve pages–planned out, storyboarded but really sloppy. I drew eleven panels yesterday in Art Rage and Sketchbook Pro, which is a lot for me, and the quality is pretty good.  I'm doing a lot more with gestures and facial expressions.  Disgust is a really tough one to capture. I like the way all of these pages came out, enough to post them.  Haven't colored the last four, but I'm going to keep moving.

Firsts: first time drawing a toilet.

Questions?  Comments? I'd love to hear what you think!

Saltwater Witch Comic in ePub

Chapter 1 of Saltwater Witch is now available in ePub format!  Open in it iBooks, Nook, Adobe, Stanza, or any of the ePub readers out there. I will be following up with the rest of the available chapters–1 through 11 with a bit of 12.

Doing some reading out loud and recording it

I spent an hour or so tonight reading and recording the first chapter of Teller, preparing to record…all of them. Let me know what you think!  Here's the print and ebook.

Same recording, two formats:

MP3, 2.4MB

OGG, 3.2MB

Talking heads…they never bring good news

Just posted the latest page–page 228 (Page 211 in image file names, but that's because I have a bunch of page 12a and 12b's, and it messed up my nice consecutive order).

I'm really happy with this art.  Finally…finally! I'm getting to the point where I can draw and paint a whole page, then letter it in under four hours. I started last night, spent a couple hours, and I just spent another hour and a half this morning.

I'm also playing with the lettering again.  I really thought it would be cool to have an upper/lower case font which sort of looked like Kassandra's own hand, but…what do I know?  It didn't turn out that well, wasn't nearly as readable as a any of the good comic fonts out there.  (Blambot's the best source I've seen for lettering and effects text)

Anyway, here's the latest page–or maybe you'd better go see it all at SaltwaterWitch.com

The Magic of Open Spaces

There's something magical about a lone tree standing at the top of a hill overlooking fields of grass–and apparently it can be tapped for some sort of long distance communication.  Painted this last night, still working with more color and, in this one, a simpler technique–flat, straight lines, angles, hard lines, except where there's magic and it gets a bit fuzzy.

First painting on my GMB – Giant MacBook Pro 17

I ordered one of the big MacBook Pro 17s with the I7 proc, and it arrived yesterday afternoon.  I spent a good deal of last night and today moving everything over.  This afternoon I plugged in my Wacom and went to work on something new.  The hi-res screen on this monster so bright and beautiful, I wanted to paint something…equally bright and beautiful, a witch practicing magic.  You know how it is.  You have to stay on your toes, because you never know when some evil wizard is going to try to kill you.

Kassandra, Saltwater Witch

Kassandra-SaltwaterWitch-6d-DISP I’m working on a batch of writing stuff, a proposal, editing, and some concept art for a graphic novel.  I haven’t been able to spend any time on the game/promotion thing, but did some painting yesterday.
